Only recently have we returned from our summer holiday. Together with my husband and our 2-year-old daughter we went to the South of Russia by car (the way to the Black Sea took us 26 hours – we covered 2000 km, and then the same on the way back).

Yes, I know, we should have publish the results and the prizes of the Children’s Land-art Festival long ago but it happened so that life moved the dates of our holiday from the planned ones to the ones we have actually spent at sea. So, let us first share with you the photo-story of our travelling and then we will return to land art.

Having covered about 900 km, we made a stop in THE HOUSE OF OUR FRIENDS:

Internet Community “Mothers’ Blogs” has launched its first competition. And notwithstanding the fact that officially we are on holiday, we could not but take part in it! The terms of the competition are the following: “interesting mummies’ talks in which you participate or hear on the children’s playground, some not quite ordinary situations that you are living each day”. The prizes for the competition are given by “A Store for a Mother and Her Little One” and Maria Klimova, the author of the book “Talks in a Sandpit, ot Stories from Mothers’ Life”.

And here is our story for the competition:

The first recollections after the child’s birth are always very sweet and memorable: in two hours after Soniya’s birth (though then we did not know that it would be Soniya :) ) my husband came to the hospital and brought us a huge bouquet of orange roses, the first night with a baby (who is not within but beside you!) – I am afraid to fall asleep as what if the child will want to eat, in the afternoon I am keeping our little one under the sun rays falling through the window – a treatment for inogenous jaundice, I am a bit worried but I know that everything will be fine…

There was something else.

Among 1-, 2-, 3-bed wards, I chose the one for two people: there is always someone to ask for help and advice if needed. Unfortunately, my roommate was Read the rest of this entry »

Have you ever heard of such kind of art as Land Art

What is Land Art?

It involves making art and sculptures using materials you find in nature, such as leaves, fir cones, twigs, pebbles, rocks, sand and shells. Usually, sculptures are not placed in the landscape, rather, the landscape is the means of their creation.

Endless Knot

How is Land Art connected to the subject of Parents’ Ideas?

Land Art can add so much fun, beauty and positive emotions into the process of the child’s upbringing. Moreover, it can unite children and adults when they create “as equals” contributing to each others’ ideas and learning from each other and from nature.

Floating Leaf Boat

When creating art and sculptures among nature both children and adults:

  • notice the beauty of “usual” things such as, for example, leaves covered with hoarfrost, icicles illuminated by the sun rays, stones on the beach, etc;
  • use their imagination, get some fresh air and learn all about nature and cycles of life;
  • play and explore at the same time.

Today we are very honoured to introduce you Richard Shilling, an English land artist, sculptor, photographer and film-maker who has recently published the first of a series of Land Art for Kids books in partnership with Julia Brooklyn.

Commemorative Album

We presented our daddy with the gift described below when he returned from his business trip. We wanted to share with him the atmosphere and events we had faced. As if he had not left and was aware of everything happening.

One of those days Soniya (21 mo)painted bright pictures with finger paints. But she did not stop at that point: she also thoroughly painted her face and the mirror beside. Of course, I immediately fetched my camera :)

With the taken photos of a small size I decorated Soniya’s paintings. In her other picture I wrote down her funny pieces of speech and described some situations from our life of that time.

Now the most important task was facing me: how to make everything as a gift? Read the rest of this entry »

Now I know: holidays have been invented to direct parents’ imagination to what crafts can be made together with children! :) I don’t think it would have occurred to me to make something in the shape of a heart together with our little daughter (21 mo) if not for St. Valentine’s Day. And in these hearts we managed to reflect an idea which is very important for every child: the family is one whole and each loves the others which means that everything is fine and the surrounding world is stable and joyful!

And here are our ideas:

A Heart from Sticking Notes

Such a heart was made by us quite spontaneously – Soniya found a pack of sticking notes among office accessories.

The craft which seems quite simple served many educational ideas: Read the rest of this entry »

I think we have found a perfect way both to improve our state when we feel tired or gloomy and the state of our little daughter when she starts misbehaving or crying.

It was in Sahaja Yoga that I first learn about the beneficial influence on the organism of baths for feet . Negative energies that we could “pick up” during the day go into the basin with water and salt. Peace sets within, negative thoughts and emotions leave us, sleep improves. And imagine how surprised I was when I found out that doctors also recommend keeping our feet in the water of comfortable temperature where some sea salt is added. Moreover, they advise to do it both for adults and kids.

footsoaking

Last month, the doctor who came to make a professional massage to our toddler told us something about footosoaking. Our little girl (17 mo) keeps her feet in the basin with water and salt two times a day since she turned 1 year old. She does it at the same time with us (in the morning and evening). The masseur explained to us the benefit of this activity from medical point of view:

  • the nervous system relaxes – the child becomes more peaceful;
  • the salt clears the body of chemical waste drawing it out from the organism through pores.

In fact, if our daughter is in a gloomy mood it is just enough to do the footsoaking together with her for her state to improve for the better.

And today the neurologist who we attended on a routine basis prescribed our little girl the same method for strengthening her legs. When I asked the doctor what the benefits salty water are, she answered that Read the rest of this entry »

All the children love construction sets. Many adults love them, too. In each of us, there is a fundamental desire for creation when Something appears from nothing and the Whole is always bigger than the sum of the details it consists of… a miracle!

However, a 18 mo old toddler is too little for all those tempting sets with details which his mother enjoys looking at in the stores :) (I did not have such sets in my childhood!)… The little one would like to run and make fun but the mother, for some reason, does not like to run… The father likes to run (is it so, dad?) but he is away from home all day long… Boring…

Once, having run after our toddler for the hundredth time, I also thought, “It’s really boring… And if there were a construction set!” And at that moment it dawned upon me: Read the rest of this entry »

Tip of the Day

My husband and I had bought bicycles two days before our daughter was born. By now I have cycled only three times (once on my bicycle and twice on my hubby’s one :) ). As for Valery, my husband, he rides his bicycle almost every day. Walking with our little daughter, I always pay attention to how other parents combine cycling and their parental duties.

In such a way one of the mothers comes to the children’s playground with her little one:

cycling together with the baby

I asked her why she preferred ”cloth” for the baby and not a child’s chair for the bicycle? She answered that Read the rest of this entry »

Soniya traveled for the first time in her life when she was 3 weeks old – we went to a pine wood 40 km from the city, for the whole day. A year had passed and we went on a more serious trip – to the Sahaja Yoga International Festival, 700 km away from our city. I have already written how we entertained our little one in the car. Today I am going to tell you how we lived with our little daughter in a tent in the forest on the bank of the River Volga during 4 days.

Packing

To pack bags together with a little one is not an option. Though, of course, if you have got lots of time and would like to make packing a developing game, why not… As for me, I tried to do it but Soniya decided that Read the rest of this entry »

Tip of the Day

Movement is life but how pleasant it can be to luxuriate in a cozy armchair sometimes! Especially, if You are the mother of a 12-month-old toddler and have overcome the difficulties of the first year with honour.

So, now you have a full right to rest and enjoy life as to entertain the baby who has turned 1 is very simple! You even do not have to leave the armchair. It is enough to reach for an old glossy lying on the shelf/stand/trolley/coffee table. It should be thick for the pleasure not to stop at the very beginning :) .

So, let’s open the magazine and… mercilessly tear out a page from it! Now crumple it into a ball and throw the paper ball at your little fidget. And then one more! The baby is delighted! You also feel comfortable in your favourite armchair (on the sofa or bed). The pages come out easily, with a pleasant sound, and there are lots of them… Marvelous!

You’ll have much more fun if you put Read the rest of this entry »
