As an epigraph: when I am thinking over what art (craft) we will do with Soniya (24 mo), first I try to show our daughter some unknown way of using her favourite things.

It is a period of dandelions in Soniya’s life now. She is looking at them through the window, picking them up when walking. They are the only flowers I allow her to pick up in the city.
Once I brought home a piece of nature for Soniya – dandelions. And the most interesting activity started:

Tip of the Day

After talking to Richard Shilling the walking with our little daughter (23 mo) got a new dimension.

Actually, we were not going to make any land art works so far. We just went to the Kremlin situated in the middle of our city, as usual. And there were beautification works in full play. Where should we go taking into consideration that the wind was almost blowing the baby away – 18 km/h! We found several pine trees (close to the digging works mentioned above). What was left was to think about how to entertain the little one.

“Soniya, let’s build a house!” Soniya got quite enthusiastic and started bringing pine cones. And at that point I thought that we could make some art! Read the rest of this entry »

When being with a child, an opportunity to create a whole world from nothing during some 5 minutes always attracted me. Parents’ Ideas has already described one of the means of how to do it (Play Drawing with Children, or Escher in a Children’s Manner).

And one of these days Arseny and I created a whole world again a table theatre stage – spontaneously using only scissors and colour cardboard. It was Arseny (a boy of 2) who suggested the idea of how to make it.

It should be mentioned that Arseny’s main passion is cars and the most popular situations in his games are when a car faces an accident, it is broken and needs immediate fixing. But he does not fix his cars just anywhere, the car needs a car service station! (thanks to the book about an unforgettable mole).

So, during our games I often suggest: Read the rest of this entry »

A contest in one of the Russian collective blogs made me think that it would be a great idea to organize “theme evenings” for our child from time to time. One of the evenings of the previous week we devoted to the topic “Giraffe”.

First of all, we examined the giraffes we’d got at home (photos, toys). Then, together with our daughter, we printed out three copies of the giraffe for colouring which I’d found in the Internet (the process of printing out is much fun for the toddler of 20 mo). And now we are ready to start our work: mummy’s imagination plus Sonya’s enthusiasm.

Applique Work “Giraffe” # 1: coffee, napkins and buckwheat

This appliqué work was made with the use of different materials. I wanted to use some “unordinary ingredients” (coffee, napkins, buckwheat) and our Soniya (22 mo) was very interested in Read the rest of this entry »
