The promised story about our stay in the City of Voronezh, or the meeting of the children’s art-group in new membership

July 12, 2010, Monday

In Place of Introduction

When returning from the south of Russia to our native city, we stopped in Voronezh at our friends’ place for a day (after 13 hours of driving). The main reason for making a one-day break from driving was the conduction of a children’s art-group! :) Having read in “Parents’ Ideas” about our art-meetings for kids, our mummy-friends from Voronezh asked us to visit them and give a “guest performance” :)

We decided to organize the meetings in the apartment of its youngest participant – 11-month-old Lika. By 10:30 we brought Soniya (2,2 yr.), Andrew (1,7 yr) and Karim (1,7 yr) there. I tried not to think of how everything would go – to conduct an art-meeting in a company of such little ones – that was quite new for me. Before our daughter Soniya had been the youngest at such meetings; she copied the elder kids and we were at home (there were no unknown distracting things there). How everything would go that day – let’s see in practice :) .

The children if not greeted each other happily, then, at least, felt comfortable in the company of each other. Lika was shining with smiles, Soniya immediately figured out where the greatest number of toys was, Andrew and Karim did not fall behind in their investigations, either.

Kids’ Creativity

We started with the meditation part – without balance within it is difficult to do any creative work, especially with such little toddlers. Only Karim behaved ideally – he was sitting on his mother’s lap quietly and with attention watching everything. Actually, we hadn’t expected that the children would sit absolutely quietly. As for me, I was happy that Soniya was participating in all the suggested meditation activities. And what of it that between them she found time to get into the playpen with toys turned onto its side?!

The aim is reached – everybody has got joyful state! We are moving to the second part!… Hm-m-m, Read the rest of this entry »

There are lots of different ways to create unique T-shirts. In this workshop, I will describe the simplest method which even children can use – drawing with markers on cloth (it can be a wonderful handmade present for relatives and frineds).

Materials and Instruments: a cotton T-shirt, cloth markers, silver acrylic contour (am acrylic pencil for making contours).

First, let’s make a sketch. I made it in Adobe Illustrator but it is not necessary at all – you can draw it with a pencil or even use a magazine picture to your liking. The main point here is the following: the image should have clear-cut contours and simple (without multiple tones) colours for you to be able to reproduce it with markers. If the contours of the picture are not very distinct, outline it with a black marker or a gel pen.

If the T-shirt is new, wash it with soap or detergent first to Read the rest of this entry »

Tip of the Day

The wardrobe of our newly-born Sonya was being filled up, basically, due to the presents of our relatives and friends. Everybody wanted to see the baby, to smile at her but how one can come without a “present”!

We, in our turn, wanted to thank the generous guests for the beautiful clothes (from crawlers to dresses) and entertaining toys (from rattles to construction sets).

Tea with sweet things was an ever-present attribute of the meetings. Of course, I had neither strength nor time for a substantial “feast” but why not have some tea? :)

And we also found the way how to express our gratitude for the present to each guest in such a manner that Read the rest of this entry »

Tip of the Day

We were presented with two wonderful T-shirts. But… we failed to put them on our baby – his head did not go through, the little one was crying. Looking at other factory-made T-shirts, I saw snap fasteners on one of their shoulders. So, I unripped a side seam, edged it, sewed on a button on one side and made Read the rest of this entry »

Tip of the DayBabies who have not turned 1 often sleep in the pram while being outside, especially during the cold season. However, the producers of warm hats do not always pay attention to this fact.

For our daughter Sophiya, we bought a woolen hat for winter. For the first time, the hat was put on her in October when she was 5 months old. It was not comfortable for her to lie in it at all – the little started “shaking” her head several times before she finally fell asleep.

I understood the cause of it only when I saw a bright pink trace – the trace of the seam on the back of her head. What could be done? Our granny was about to run to the store and buy one more hat.

At the family council (where the granny was also taking part) we decided

Tip of the Day Really, what can be there? For all my life, I have believed that pockets are not more than a marketing trick of the producers of clothes for children. Why not raise the price twice if there are such cute pockets-pictures on the baby’s attire?

What mum can resist the temptation to dress her dearest one most beautifully? A shirt with pockets, trousers with pockets… The tot looks so sweet – almost like an adult! But why does he need them?

I was grumbling in a manner like this preparing to become a mummy myself. I was complaining about the lack of not expensive but quality clothes without any “extra additions” in the stores. Arseny arrived and I understood how wrong I had been. Read the rest of this entry »
