Tip of the Day

Bitter frosts still continue. Soniya (20 mo) has used all the plasticine and paints and she has glued everything that can be glued – even the pieces of pine cones. Something new should be invented, immediately! Otherwise, the mum is also bored at home…

On the day when Natalie and Arseny were making huge glasses-masks, Soniya and I were making a doll or, to be more exact, a “girl”. The activity really turned out to be developmental!

In Soniya’s hands a new “person” was born, with all the features of its face, hair and body. And our daughter got Read the rest of this entry »

Tip of the Day

The creation of something new takes place thanks not to the intellect but to a play instinct based on inner necessity. The creative mind plays with objects which it likes.

Carl Jung

Children are little magicians. Just by their presence, they make impossible possible. For example, absolutely any adult is able to make a toy from nothing in the presence of a little child, and during a couple of seconds!

Look how we played today:

We’d got only animals and nothing else. And then everything appeared. You create whatever you want, you go wherever you want. The limitlessness of opportunities makes you stunned!

Wherever we find ourselves: in a hospital, in some transport, in any situation of waiting – in a moment you can create a small world on a piece of paper. And no boredom, no kilos of toys taken with you. Here is the magic – the magic to be (near) a child.

Tip of the Day

Having put our little daughter to bed, I am hurrying to the kitchen to my husband who has recently come home for lunch. Already from the threshold of the room I am starting to tell him (as we all have very little time :) ), “The other mummies on the playground say… (I suddenly stand still seeing something on the table) how beautifully you have cut the cheese!

I was amazed at my husband’s Read the rest of this entry »

“To learn painting like Rafael I had to study painting like a child half of my life!”

Pablo Picasso

My hubby and I are among the happy parents who did not have to invent where to hide and how to hang up the things in our room for our little child who had just started walking not to reach and break them. Regarding this, Soniya is a very conscious child. The instruments for art (felt-tip pens, pencils, plasticine, etc.) are kept in the places where she can easily take them from. So, it was quite logical that one day when Soniya was 16 mo she tried drawing on our white door. We explained to her that it was not the best thing to do. She got the idea. But for us it was a signal that the little one needs some new space for art :)

When Natalie told me that Arseny (19 mo) had got a new “easel” (“paper finished, we turned to wallpaper – we are drawing with crayons, markers, paints”), I understood that we need a similar one!

The space is much larger – an opportunity not to draw only tiny things :)

The space is limited in our room. That’s why the easel which I made for our daughter looks Read the rest of this entry »

Tip of the DayThe little one has turned 2 years old. He already reaches the pedals very well. That is the sign for mums and dads that the toddler is ready to cycle in an “adult manner”.

But how not to get tured teaching the baby cycling? One of the possible answers is  Read the rest of this entry »

Tip of the DaySuch covers for the wheels of our pram were made by us after we had studied the prices for the same things in the store. They are cut out from an old shower curtain. The edges of the circles were burnt on the candle. The diameter of the circle is app. equal to the diameter of the wheel + two widths of the wheel + 8-10 cm for the inner part. The holes are made with the burning hot awl. Elastic is inserted into them.

Tip of the DayOr, to be more exact, the bottle left of it. When I found out that it could easily come apart, I was very much delighted! And even the ball can be taken out. And it is so wonderfully round, rugged, semitransparent… And why did I think that it was nonseparable? Here they are, the stereotypes of thinking restricting our creative freedom!

Well, the bottle can be taken to pieces. And it means that everything you want can be poured into it. The first thing that came to my mind was oil for the baby’s massage. It turned out to be even better than with the syringe! Now, when our son Arseny has learnt to push the piston, the syringe has become not very handy. With the bottle left after the roll-on deodorant I am very much relaxed! Whatever Arseny does with it, the oil does not run out. Besides, it is very handy as with the help of the ball mechanism the oil comes out in doses and there is never too much of it (like it was with an ordinary bottle and the syringe).

But the main pleasure is to

Tip of the DayOur 1-year-old Soniya loves felt-tip pens – to take them out from the package, to take the caps off and then to try to put them on again, to push the felt pens into the package again. But she is interested in drawing itself only for a minute. And drawing is very useful for the development of image-bearing thinking, aesthetic perception, sense of colour and space…

Once, when we were in our village house waiting together with the daughter until the rain stops, I thought out the following (it was impossible to avoid drawing as I had taken neither toys nor books to the village house from the city and it was not wise to walk under the rain): I started describing our previous day for Soniya drawing the images-illustrtions with the felt-tip pens at the same time. Our daughter was obviously interested. Not only was she listening to me but she was also drawing something over my images, voiced the pictures as if remembering something, told me something in her own language… We were drawing in such a way for 10-15 minutes and even did not notice when the rain stopped.

Tip of the Day
*Elevators/lifts in Russian multistory houses are quite narrow.

Our son was born in winter. Preparing for it, we bought the pram – a spacious one, with a big cradle for the baby to feel comfortable in it in 20 winter pieces of clothes and warm blankets. What we did not thought about then was the elevator in our 9-storey house. Our pram turned out to fit it only when the doors of the elevator were pushed to the sides with one’s hands :( . One had to be a magician-acrobat-bodybuilder to ride the pram into the elevator at the same time pushing the doors to the sides and not waking up the baby.

At that time we were new, not-experienced and not very witty parents. Thus, the problem was solved in a very simple way – Arseny had to walk at the balcony, that’s it (at least, it was easier for the mummy :) ).

But time passed. The sun started to warm up our balcony on the southern side of the house. By the middle of May there was the atmosphere of a Finnish sauna there. The issue “pram-elevator” appeared again. But once again we solved it in a simple way: Read the rest of this entry »

Tip of the Day

The bulb has burned out in the bathroom… As usual, we did not have extra ones. But, instead, we found colour garlands with LED from “Ikea” and some foil for cooking.

And here is the result:
