Tip of the Day

While we were making cards in the network of our project “Homemade Cards and Gifts”, our readers were sharing their tips and ideas with us. For example, reading about this card Nadezhda told us how to make design paper in home environment.

We’d like to present you a third card in our project “Homemade Cards and Gifts – Interesting Ideas Every Day!

Have you ever thought of an additional functionality of the hole punch?

Cheerful Homemade Cards

The idea of this card is not only in laborious work (though I somehow managed to glue all these circles when our little daughter was nearby – I gave her some of the circles for her own, tot’s, card :) ) ). The composition and the texture of the materials are also important in the card.

If our yesterday’s card which opened the project “Homemade Cards and Gifts – Unique Ideas Every Day!” was totally created by adults (our little daughter’s input was the colouring of baking paper), today’s card has been fully made by children! They made it at one of the meetings of the children’s art-group.

Homemade Cards – Crafts with Kids

The main idea of this card is the uncommonness of the materials which were used. Or, to be more exact, this tender card has become a result of combining quite usual things.

How do I prepare for collective art&craft meetings with children?

First the idea comes what the meeting will be devoted to:

  • it is either a certain human quality which is reflected in all the parts of our meeting (for example, one of our meetings was devoted to generosity);
  • or an image of a certain craft with which other parts of our meetings somehow correlate.

The central idea of the 6th meeting of the children’s art-group was collectivity. I wanted to work out this aspect with our little ones (and elder kids) for them not to quarrel because of toys or a piece of modeling clay.

We started our meeting with watching the photos of flowers: the children guessed the names of the flowers. The aim of that activity was to show that Nature has created a beautiful variety of flowers where there are no absolutely the same ones, and they all decorate our earth, they are all beautiful, each in its own manner.

Gifts are already made and bought? Then what is left is to add some festivity and the atmosphere of surprise to each thing. With the help of some unique wrapping paper! It can be made at home, together with a child (even a tot).

Wrapping Paper Created at Home?

Commemorative Album

We presented our daddy with the gift described below when he returned from his business trip. We wanted to share with him the atmosphere and events we had faced. As if he had not left and was aware of everything happening.

One of those days Soniya (21 mo)painted bright pictures with finger paints. But she did not stop at that point: she also thoroughly painted her face and the mirror beside. Of course, I immediately fetched my camera :)

With the taken photos of a small size I decorated Soniya’s paintings. In her other picture I wrote down her funny pieces of speech and described some situations from our life of that time.

Now the most important task was facing me: how to make everything as a gift? Read the rest of this entry »

Now I know: holidays have been invented to direct parents’ imagination to what crafts can be made together with children! :) I don’t think it would have occurred to me to make something in the shape of a heart together with our little daughter (21 mo) if not for St. Valentine’s Day. And in these hearts we managed to reflect an idea which is very important for every child: the family is one whole and each loves the others which means that everything is fine and the surrounding world is stable and joyful!

And here are our ideas:

A Heart from Sticking Notes

Such a heart was made by us quite spontaneously – Soniya found a pack of sticking notes among office accessories.

Tip of the Day

Bitter frosts still continue. Soniya (20 mo) has used all the plasticine and paints and she has glued everything that can be glued – even the pieces of pine cones. Something new should be invented, immediately! Otherwise, the mum is also bored at home…

On the day when Natalie and Arseny were making huge glasses-masks, Soniya and I were making a doll or, to be more exact, a “girl”. The activity really turned out to be developmental!

In Soniya’s hands a new “person” was born, with all the features of its face, hair and body. And our daughter got Read the rest of this entry »

The Fifth Meeting of the Children’s Art-group

The first (in 2010) meeting of the children’s art-group has already taken place. And it is notwithstanding the fact that both the road to our house and the neighbouring streets were covered with 20-centimetre snow which had fallen at night.

The New Year unexpectedly brought us some new elements into our art meetings. Now not only mums/grandmas and their children come to us but also dads. And, secondly, one more boy, Svet (2,5) finally joined us.

We started our meeting with a story about how the New Year’s Eve is celebrated in different countries, how Father Frost/Santa Claus comes to all the children on our planet though he may be called differently and be accompanied by different personalities. Here you can download an illustrated story about the New Year in different counties prepared for children: from Santa Claus and Per Noel to Queen Lucia and Goddess Laxmi.

Santa Claus. New Year in Different Countries

An important quality which unites all the characters in the story about the New Year is the desire to give presents, tasty things and joy to people. We also decided to prepare something sweet to present others with it – this time we were making pastry for gingerbread.

What to give as a present? The answer to this question is being sought by many people on our planet on the eve of every holiday. Each of us, at least at the bottom of his heart, wants his present to be unique, useful and to reflect his love…

The whole December Soniya and I were making something – we were preparing presents for our relatives for the New Year’s Eve. I wanted both to make practical presents and to involve our little daughter (19 mo) into their creation. And here is what we got at our table on December 30 before I put these things into holiday bags:

You’ve already seen our Christmas balls and vases (you can learn how to make them here and here). The greatest thing about these crafts is that they always turn out differently, they are always unique.

I thoroughly recorded the process of the creation of each craft with my camera. And when everything was ready, in each bag there was a pile of photos of our daughter creating the presents which were in that bag.

The cards are also handmade: there are imprints of little palms and a beautiful tape on the edges.

And what is there in the centre of the first photo? Read the rest of this entry »
