Huge Glasses-Masks, or How to Make the Mummy and Toddler Happy

Arseny (23 mo) is not interested in games, his cars any more, he cannot find what to do – and all because it is too cold outside (25 degrees below zero Celsius)… Not the best time for the mum who has to invent something cheerful and developing, immediately, but the imagination has almost stopped working. Especially when the little one answers “no” to most tempting suggestions . In such a state the astounding ideas usually come to one’ mind. For example, one of these days our son and I organized a masquerade. No, we did not change costumes but their absence was made up for by a wide choice of masks or, to be more exact, HUGE MASKS-GLASSES (you can enlarge all the pics).

Everything started with the idea to cut glasses out of construction paper. Arseny loves dressing himself in something from mummy-daddy’s wardrobe. So, he condescendingly accepted my suggestion to put on the glasses made of cardboard. But in return he demanded that I should also wear similar ones… and here fun started . Running to the mirror, cutting out new and new models, larger, larger… as a result, glasses-masks started appearing… First, a cloud, then a butterfly, then a car and a bear. It is so fascinating to invent new and new masks right on the spot! And the baby looks so cute in huge glasses with thick sides behind his ears that I cannot but laugh and begin taking pics of him…

Arseny participated in creating the pattern on the wings of the butterfly.

The sun has crept through the curtain lace
and turned the mummy-bear into a magic animal

It’s a pity but most of our crafts were turned into pieces though Arseny was lamenting over each of them very impressively and even suggested that I should glue all the pieces together after which, again with sadness on his face, he tore everything and put the parts into the garbage bin himself. That is the understanding of order in the child’s mind

And then followed the most pleasant thing – watching the shot videos right on the camera screen (the boy is sitting beside me quietly) and afterwards –  long and delightful trundling of the car. I even suspect that in the process of wheeling the new impressions were being worked out in Arseny’s mind – the brighter the impressions are, the longer the trundling is . It means there is a chance for me to comfortably settle in an armchair with the beloved laptop and enjoy a carefree Internet-surfing – everything to each according to his needs, as the saying goes . And tomorrow it should be warmer – so, we will go for a walk… but if not – there is plenty of cardboard at our place I am sure we won’t be bored
