Our daughter (20 mo) has got lots of dolls and toy animals already. But I also wanted her to have a “living” toy. In the stores, the choice of punch puppets was quite disappointing. Thus… I made a Punch myself and got lots of satisfaction from it (because Soniya was happy to get such a puppet – the Punch became alive in her hands and it was also pleasant to touch one’s check with it!)
How to make a Punch?
The head of the puppet can be made of papier-mâché but I chose another way.
Take a soft toy (I bought a cheap toy bear).
Carefully, along its seams, unpick the head and the paws. If there are no seams, cut the head and paws off leaving 0,5 cm for the overcast. Now take some cloth, and cut 2 “gloves” out (check the pattern in the picture below).
I did the following:
Sew the two gloves together, hem the lower edge. Now sew the head to the upper edge of the “glove” and the paws to the sides. You can also sew the other elements of the toy, like its tail, to the Punch.
Useful ideas
I used fleece for the “glove”: there is no need to hem the edges. And it is very pleasant to touch fleece because of its softness!
Before sewing the bear’s head to the “glove” I added some cloth to it leaving just a hole for the finger.
