Handmade presents

We, the auhtors of Parents’ Ideas, have already shared the ideas of handmade presents with the readers of our blog. And here are several ideas from Alima (by the way, you can read in Where a Mummy Can Find Time where she finds time for all this taking care of a recently born baby-girl):

“My husband and I love to give presents, especially made, completely or partially, by us – to each other and to our friends.

Here are some ideas that we have already made real and which may be useful for you:

Presents for Holidays

We’ve got different projects for each holiday. Once we bought lots of vases and painted them ourselves. We also painted frames adding photos into them. For the last New Year’s Eve we painted balloons and wrote wishes on them.

Cookery Presents

We bought beautiful glass containers and filled them with:

  • twigs of rosemary, thyme and chilly and then poured olive oil onto them;
  • salt mixed with spices;
  • “cookery construction set” – we put the ingredients for cookies into the jar in layers: flour, sugar, nuts and raisins. In addition, there was a chocolate and a manual, one had to add an egg, butter and chop the chocolate;
  • rice for pilaff – and spices for it and a wooden spoon in addition to it;

Once we also bought straw vases and I made biscuits and put them into the vases. Homemade pastry is always tasty and one will also have a vase :)

Presents to Each Other

for Christmas, birthday, memorable date and for no special reason

My husband Igor cannot be surpassed in that. After his presents I even do not know what to invent to answer him in an “appropriate” way :) . For example, for our 2-year wedding anniversary he ordered my portrait. He set it in the hall and made a road to it with rose petals. He also wrote “We are 2 years old!” and two hearts with them. I woke up and found all that. What was interesting is that a little bit before I had got a dream betokening all that. As if we saw roses in the sky and then, al of a sudden, rose petals started falling from the sky. First, small ones and than big – of bright rose colour. We were very happy raising our hands to the sky and catching them.

The last project of ours was also referred to rose petals which were left after the bouquet consisting of 100 flowers – Igor gave it to me when our daughter and I were leaving the maternity hospital.

 The Happiest Year of Love

What did I make for Igor? Once I was leaving when he had his birthday. That is why I embroidered different pleasant and loving words on his pillowcase. Last New Year’s Eve I presented him with “365 Messages of Love” written on hearts. He really liked to read one of them each day during the following year. And, of course, when there is a holiday, I always cook something not-ordinary for him. Often, in a heart shape: a pizza, a cake or scrambled eggs.

What other presents can be prepared for the husband/wife? We will be happy to learn your experience.
