I picked up this idea from the book “The Baby Book” by W. and M. Sears when I even was not pregnant yet. Rocking chair! It was mentioned in the book a couple of times as a good means helping worn-out parents and overexcited children to relax.
At that time, the idea of the rocking chair was put by somewhere at the periphery of my consciousness and came to life again in some months when baby-twins arrived in the family of my sister. Exhausted by constant rocking, the parents decided to try a rocking chair and immediately bought two. “It was the best investment for all the period of my fatherhood“, later said Paskal, a Swiss husband of my sister.
So, the idea was tested. But when our son was born, we did not use it at once. First, we were rocking the baby in our hands as it was not very difficult till some certain time. But the little one was growing, his teeth started cutting, avalanche of new impressions… and it was becoming more and more difficult for him to fall asleep. Rocking became hard physical labour. I’d got problems with my back. And at some point we understood that time had come… and also became owners of that wonderful equipment.

When I first sat down into it with Arseny for whom it was time to fall asleep I told myself that I would not stand up even if I had to rock him for hours on end. The result surpassed all expectations. The baby calmed down immediately. I think when I had been rocking him in my hands he felt discomfort as it was difficult for me and I was strained. The rocking chair helped us both to relax. Since that time our life with Arseny has become much easier and more joyful.
By the way, a possible variant for those who is limited in space – suspended swings. It’s important that they should have a back and armrests. You can make them yourself. They can be hanged in a doorway on a cross bar which will become a part of a sport complex for children and adults in the future. Then you have both benefit and pleasure
